A lawsuit accuses the owner and managers of a building where four children died in a fire of failing to equip their apartment with escape routes and working smoke detectors.
“They created a death trap for this family who had no chance of escape,” said attorney Marty Dolan, who filed the lawsuit Tuesday on behalf of Nate Johnson, who was critically injured when he jumped out a third-story window to escape the Monday morning fire in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.
The lawsuit names Tahir M. Sheikh, the owner of the building at 11242 S. Vernon Ave., and the management company, J & J Management and Construction.
On Wednesday, a judge issued an order to “preserve and maintain” the scene of the fire, as well as all building inspection records and citations during the past five years and any emergency calls to the property. Read More
