Nearly 14 years after she reported being sexually assaulted by former Olympic team doctor Larry Nassar, Brianne Randall-Gay heard words she thought she would never hear from the authorities who took his word over hers and caused her to be consumed by self-doubt and emotional turmoil.
“I want to first start with the most important reason we’re here and that’s to apologize on behalf of the community and the police department,” an emotional Frank Walsh, the manager of Meridian Township, Michigan, told Randall-Gay during a news conference on Thursday. “We failed you. We let you down.”
