Seven members of Illinois’ congressional delegation on Monday urged the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to bar Sterigenics from using ethylene oxide at its Willowbrook plant until the surrounding community is assured emissions of the gas no longer endanger public health. Ethylene oxide, which is used to sterilize devices, can cause cancer if inhaled.
