Playing Nurse

Patients and their families trust that the nurses and doctors who treat them in hospitals are appropriately qualified to do so – and most of the professionals that you encounter in the hospital are licensed by the state.

However, sometimes the people who present themselves as licensed professionals are just impostors.  In August, a Connecticut woman was arrested for acting as a nurse with a license.  Betty Lichtenstein went as far as to hold a dinner in her own honor to recognize herself as “Nurse of the Year.”  While not all people who are pretending to be licensed medical professionals go as far as to hold honorary dinners for themselves, they all do present a danger to the public health.

If you suspect that an Illinois nurse or other Illinois medical professional, is not appropriately licensed then you can check that person’s license on the State of Illinois Division of Professional Regulation website.

It is illegal to present yourself as a nurse in Illinois unless you are properly licensed as a nurse.  Any patient who is harmed by a person posing as a nurse may be able to file a lawsuit against the impostor for any physical injuries incurred and should consult with an Illinois medical malpractice attorney for a free consultation.
