The following is a guest post by a Hawaii injury lawyer:
Many men and women have uncovered the enjoyment and entertainment of driving a motorcycle. Sad to say, however, they and their loved ones must deal with the marked facts of motorcycle health and safety. A good manner to begin riding more safely is to become more mindful of the dangers involved. A very good method to start doing just that is to examine what the causes of motorcycle mishaps are.
Many of us are conscious that the danger of deaths is higher for people who ride motorcycles than for those who are occupants in an automobile. However the major cause of motorcycle accidents is due to the failure of other drivers to be aware of motorcycles in heavy traffic or at night. About two thirds of incidents concerning a motorcycle and another motor vehicle originate from the other vehicle switching into the lane of the motorcycle. And in crashes between motorcycles and cars, some research suggests that the probability of the motorcyclist dying is 27 times higher than that for the occupants of the car.
Speeding is another significant cause of motorcycle mishaps. Whether it is by an inexperienced rider not aware of his or her limitations, or by a more experienced rider searching for the thrill of “pushing the envelope”, in around half of all fatal mishaps the motorcycle rider was speeding. For one, increased speed can throw off the motorcycle’s alignment causing the front end to “wobble”, making it harder for the motorcycle driver to maintain control. In any case, the absence of barrier between the motorcyclist and the road leaves the rider vulnerable, thus speeding, not surprisingly, has many damaging effects on the rider in a crash.
