In the News: Lawsuit filed against owners of gas station associated with murder of 18-year-old girl

Dolan Law has filed a lawsuit against the owners of a 24-hour BP Gas Station for the shooting death of an 18-year-old Oak Park woman. The Complaint was filed on February 7, 2023, in the Circuit Court of Cook County. On June 22, 2022, Jailyn, a recent high school graduate, had stopped at her local BP gas station on her way home. She parked at a pump and went inside to make her purchases. While she was inside waiting in line, two individuals entered the store, loitered in the aisles and after she paid, followed her out. As she stepped out of the store, they assaulted her, pulled a gun out, and shot her in the back of the head. Despite an alarming history of violent crimes against persons on the property, the operator did absolutely nothing to protect Jailyn and other customers of the gas station.

The lawsuit states that despite increases in violent crime at the gas station and at surrounding gas stations in Oak Park, BP did nothing to curb or deter criminal activity. The lack of security measures or deterrents, despite being aware of violent crimes occurring at BP, created an unsafe environment that ultimately caused Jailyn’s death. “The filing of the lawsuit for the shooting death of Jailyn Bledsoe Logan explains the details of what happened that day and shows that her death was preventable.” Karen Munoz, Dolan Law, Chicago. “It is our family’s sincere hope that this lawsuit will bring some justice for my daughter, whose loss has devastated us. This gas station should have taken all reasonable measures possible to protect life. We love her and miss her smile and laughter every day.” LaDonna Logan, Jailyn’s mother.
