Different Types of Discrimination

There are many ways in which employees and potential job candidates can face unlawful discrimination at work. Here are some of the bases in which it is illegal for an employer to discriminate against employees and job applicants:

  • Discrimination due to sex – It is illegal for employers to pay men and women different salaries based on their sex or gender.
  • Discrimination based on race – An employer cannot treat an employee or prospective employee unfavorably because of their race or color.
  • Discrimination based on age – Federal law prohibits discrimination against employees over the age of 40. An employer cannot base hiring, promotion, or termination decisions solely because an employee is over the age of 40.

These are just a few of the different types of workplace discrimination. If you believe you have been discriminated in the workplace, please contact a legal professional to seek guidance.
