Kids Suffer When Parents are Convicted

It is important to present a strong defense if you are arrested for a crime. The outcome of your case effects not only but also your family.  While your spouse and parents may suffer emotionally and financially if you are convicted, it is your children who are the most vulnerable.

Last week, the Chicago Tribune published an article about the children of parents who are arrested and convicted of crimes.  The first thing that parents need to be concerned about is who is going to care for their children both in the short term, if they are arrested and, in the long term if they are incarcerated. Also, how is an incarcerated parent going to keep in touch with his or her children?  How is the state going to make sure that the children are in a safe place and adequately cared for during a parent’s absence?

These questions are hard to answer and it is estimated that between 60,000 – 90,000 children have incarcerated parents in Illinois.  These children are at greater risk of having bad grades or being arrested for a crime.

Do not let this happen to your children. Instead, consult with an experienced Illinois criminal defense attorney who can fight for you and do whatever is legally possible to keep your family together and your children safe.
